John 20:29

John 20:29 [Jesus said,] “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.

“Seeing is believing,” the saying goes, Lord. Often I want to see before I believe. I want to see the good that will come from the bad; I want to see the outcome; I want to know why and how before I believe. But faith doesn’t work that way. “Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see” (Heb. 11:1). It’s not that faith is blind, it’s that faith simply believes in your promises even when I can’t see the outcome. You have already given me that faith, so I pray help me display that faith which defies human reason and simply believes, that trusts even when the outcome is unknown, that hopes even when I don’t know the “why’s” and the “how’s.” In your name I pray, amen.
