1 Peter 4:7 The end of all things is near, therefore be clear-minded and self-controlled…
“Be clear-minded and self-controlled…” Hmmm, Lord, that sounds good, but how often it’s the opposite? My mind gets clouded with the clutter of the self-destructive lies I believe. I get weighed down by guilt or stress that make it challenging to exercise self-discipline. Whew! But there is hope, Lord, and I thank you for that! There is hope because your truthful Word shoots down my every lie. There is hope because Jesus Christ has cleansed my heart, my mind, and my soul. There is hope because your Spirit lives in me and with His Word cleans out the clutter, empowering and equipping me to exercise self-control. As you remind me that the end of the world is near, may that heighten my sense of urgency to see your will more clearly and follow it with good discipline by your power and strength alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.
