1 Peter 5:8

1 Peter 5:8  Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Dear Jesus, you know the devil attacks using subtle and crafty means to try devour and destroy.  He wears me down.  He attacks when I’m weak and vulnerable.  He attacks when I’m overconfident and self-reliant.  However, when he tempted you, you successfully resisted him with your Word (Luke 4)!  In the end, you dealt him the crushing blow of defeat by your triumphant resurrection (1 Corinthians 15)!  Daily lead me to reclaim this victory that is mine through faith.  As the devil attacks, lead me not to rely on my own strength, but on your Word.  In preparation remind me of the need to arm myself with your Word which is near me (Deuteronomy 30:14). When I’m feeling weak and vulnerable, then, you will have given me an extra measure of your strength so I’m alert and ready to withstand his attacks. In your powerful name, I pray, amen.
