Romans 7:19,24,25a For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing…What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!
It always comes back to me, heavenly Father, doesn’t it? I try to focus my thoughts outward, but they turn inward. I want to be selfless, but I’m selfish. I want to be thoughtful, but I’m thoughtless. I want to be humble, but I’m proud. I want to be gentle, but I’m rude. I want to be patient, but I get angry. What will I do, O Father? This shouldn’t surprise me. It reminds me of who I am, a sinner. But you rescued me from this body of death through Jesus Christ my Savior. So when I focus inward, turn my eyes outward to your Son who died to forgive me that I may live for you. In His name I pray. Amen.
